Eenhoorn LLC Celebrates Local & International Artists at The Plaza for ArtPrize 2024
Compelling pastels, oils, water colour sketches and 3D installations made with lollipops and meat trays make up the international exhibition at the downtown Plaza Apartments venue during ArtPrize 2024. As always, entrance is free.
Looking to the Past
The exhibition intends to help visitors recall and potentially revive more sustainable habits which were common sense for our (great)-grandparents. Can we eat less meat? Drive less and use our bikes or public transit? Respect the land and sustainable farming practices? At the same time, work by artist Nick Azzaro reminds us that there’s no such thing as the good ol’ times!
“Eenhoorn LLC is proud to introduce these exciting local, regional and international artists to ArtPrize 2024,” says Lindsay Balk, Senior Property Manager at Plaza Apartments. “These artists have been widely exhibited and we’re very proud to welcome them to our Grand Rapids venue.”
The exhibition features the following artists:
Dumb Dumb Desk and Corresponding Dunce Cap
Nick Azzaro, Ypsilanti, Michigan
Nick Azzaro is a photographer, sculptor and an installation and assemblage artist. He often works with accessible and found materials. A former teacher, Nick also uses the pages of out-of-use public school library books that have outdated and problematic content. His work is a commentary on the systemic opportunity gaps and structural hurdles in public education as witnessed in the classroom.
Workers of the Past
Marianna Heule, Belding, Michigan
Marianna Heule feels connected to the land and enjoys painting harvest scenes, the human figure at work and farm animals, especially draft horses. Marianna mostly works in pastel on sandpaper. She attended the Scottsdale Artists School in Arizona and has taken workshops with artists such as Bill Hosner, Carolyn Anderson, and Kim English. Her paintings have been awarded at regional and national shows.
“I don’t eat a lot of meat.”
Nandy Heule, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Nandy Heule is a sculptor/installation artist and printmaker. With her installations, she likes to provide social commentary with a sense of humor, using materials that are appropriate to the ideas she intends to express. Nandy earned her BFA at OCAD University, Toronto, in 2023. She has been exhibited in local, regional and national exhibitions.
Dundas Street, Toronto, Canada
Jeffrey Knick, Columbus, Ohio
Primarily creating landscapes in acrylic, watercolor and cyanotypes, Knick’s work is known for architectural and perspective elements and near-photo realism. Jeffrey is a graduate of Columbus College of Art & Design and obtained his Master of Education Degree at Xavier University. His work has won numerous awards and has appeared in multiple publications.
